Taking your health into your own hands might sound redundant since we already have control of it, but do we?
How often do we rely on others to tell us if we should take medication/supplements, what exercises we should do, what food we should eat and how much?
The answers are already within us and I want to empower you to tap into that intuition.
Throughout our early lives we are taught to listen to our caregivers, elders and other authority figures, but we're rarely given the freedom to make our own choices. By the time we have that freedom we have often forgotten how to effectively make these decisions without asking for someone else's opinion.
Health and wellness coaching can make the journey easier and more rewarding. Unlike traditional talk therapy, coaching empowers you to make meaningful changes in your life. In this blog post, we will dive into how health coaching can be a game-changer for your wellbeing. You'll see how being proactive can help you achieve your health goals and manage life's hurdles with confidence.
Understanding the Coaching Process
Health coaching and talk therapy share a common element: engaging conversations between you and your coach. The key difference is in the approach. In coaching, you are the navigator of your health journey, setting your own goals and developing strategies to reach them. This client-centered model places you at the heart of the process, allowing you to make choices that resonate with your values and aspirations.
Coaching is dynamic and forward-looking. While therapy often focuses on past experiences and emotional resolutions, coaching zooms in on your future. It encourages you to visualize your health goals and map out actionable steps to achieve them. For instance, you would specify your goal and then, as your coach, I would engage you in a thought provoking conversation, utilising motivational questions to enable you to craft a plan that suits your specific lifestyle and needs.

What if you're not sure what your goal is yet?
Your health and wellbeing journey may start with specific issues you want to tackle. These could include improving your nutrition, increasing physical activity, managing stress, or breaking unhealthy habits. If you're unsure where to start, that's perfectly fine; I can help you explore various areas of interest.
In your initial session, I will guide you through the discovery process to pinpoint what really matters to you. This exploration phase is key to defining meaningful goals. For example, if you feel drained most of the day, a goal might be to improve your sleep quality and discuss other ways to improve energy levels.
Crafting Strategies for Success
Once your goals are identified, we will work together to design a clear, actionable plan tailored to your lifestyle. This usually includes setting targets and trying new routines while I support your progress. The strategies you create will blend with your current habits and preferences, ensuring a smoother transition. You get to decide how much or how little you are willing to adjust in order to realise your goals.
Accountability is critical in this phase. Regular check-ins help you monitor your progress, celebrate achievements, and tackle obstacles. For instance, if your goal is to create healthier eating habits, discussing your progress and any hurdles you come across can improve your motivation to stick with it and gives you the opportunity to make adjustments that keep you heading towards your target.

Overcoming Challenges
Challenges are a part of life, we all have responsibilites like demanding jobs or family obligations which can create roadblocks on your wellness path.
I can help you to come up with strategies to work around them. For example, if your goal is healthier eating but time constraints prevent you from making meals from scratch, we could discuss ways to make this easier and come up with ideas to make it less time consuming.
Consideration of your overall Health & Wellness
Health and wellness covers multiple areas, including physical, mental, and emotional health. Although you might enter the coaching process with a specific target, conversations often broaden to consider a more holistic view of your wellbeing.
Discussing aspects like sleep quality, stress management, and nutrition can yield new insights that create a tailored wellness plan. For example, research shows that regular physical activity can improve sleep quality by up to 65%. This interplay means that improvements in one area often benefit others.
Taking Action and Next Steps
Now that you're inspired to take charge of your health, what's your first step? Reflect on your current health and identify areas for improvement. Think clearly about your goals—what do you want to achieve?
Once you've clarified your aspirations, it's time to reach out for your first session!
